ALDI in Turramurra? Rumours ARE true.

Although this is somewhat ‘old NEWS’, there has been a lot of conversation and confusion in the Upper North Shore recently about the potential appearance of an ALDI supermarket along Eastern Road, Turramurra.

The plan, as covered by the Ku-Ring-Gai council website, would suggest that ALDI have certainly submitted to rezone the area of 45-47 Tennyson Avenue and 105 Eastern Road – the petrol station and nursery areas. The submission is a proposal to change the zoning of the land from R2 (low density residential) to B1 (Neighbourhood centre zone) essentially allowing the possibility to build the centre.
The catch is, the submission, or, proposal is only to rezone there would then need to be a proposal for development once the area is rezoned, from what I understand.

I have had many conversations with people lately about this and the general vibe seems to be rather negative as the complication of traffic, competitor activity and significant change in the landscape of the area is of paramount importance to current residence.

There is a little bit of information on the Ku-Ring-Gai council website where I would suggest you look, if you want to remain proactive in regard to the information around the zoning/development as it may not be necessarily placed in your mailbox.

Generally, the Turramurra property market has remained quite strong through this selling period that has extended through Winter and certainly the clearance rate for property at Auction in Turramurra remains strong, I wonder if this will impact now or for the future in the surrounding area – positive or negative?

I’d be inclined to say negative for the people impacted the most, the locals.

Thomas Merriman.
